Your setup in a match is almost as important as the match itself, here are some tips:
The refs are always going to make you start with your shoulders square to the table, you must have your non competing hand on the peg at all times, and your elbow on the pad.
Pro tip: always put the same side foot that you are armwrestling with forward (as an example, if you are using your right arm, put your right foot forward), and put it as far under the table as you can.
Also, hump the table... It may sound weird and you may get bruised, but you will gain the most leverage with your center of gravity as close to your arm as possible.
The hand and wrist:
It is recommended that you always cover your thumb with your pointer finger for the tightest grip. Always keep your wrist straight and your elbow to the front of the pad while setting up.
The intricacies of the setup is the most complex thing in the sport, you could read and study all you want, but nothing beats hands on practice, check out our Practices page to pull with us!
